As part of the dissemination and knowledge-transfer activities of the INNOGOUV project, we had the pleasure of presenting a research work on French wine cooperatives at the Vinid’Occ National Conference, organized by the Défi Clé Vinid’Occ. This event took place at La Cité, in Toulouse, on December 4 and 5, 2025.

The Défi Clé Vinid’Occ is a scientific initiative whose ambition is to support the innovation of tomorrow’s viticulture and oenology, from gene to bottle, by developing fundamental research on vine and wine with an international reach. The national conference fully aligns with this approach by bringing together researchers, socio-economic actors, and professionals from the vine and wine sector around four major themes: genomic plasticity and adaptation of the vine, sustainable viticulture facing climate change, oenological adaptations, as well as the market acceptability of resistant varieties.

A presentation on the drivers of the adoption of varietal innovation
in French wine cooperatives

The work presented by M. Makraz focused on the drivers of the adoption of varietal innovation within wine cooperatives and cooperative unions in France. Based on semi-structured interviews with 33 wine cooperatives and second-tier structures, this presentation explored the factors influencing the choice of cooperatives to adopt new vine varieties adapted to climate change and resistant to diseases. The results highlight the decisive role of agronomic and oenological advantages as drivers of adoption, while underlining constraints related to appellation specifications and consumer acceptance of the wines. They also shed light on the positive role of cooperatives and their links with external stakeholders, such as research centers, second-tier structures, and suppliers, in the dynamics of varietal innovation. https://hal.science/hal-05419118v1
