3rd webinar
First results of the quantitative enquiry
among second-tier wine cooperatives

On May 27, 2026, the third webinar for the INNOGOUV project took place, focusing on the presentation of the 2024–2025 quantitative survey. This survey covered 18 wine cooperative unions and second-tier structures—such as cooperative unions, agricultural collective interest companies (SICA), and cooperative societies of collective interest (SCIC)—distributed across France's wine-growing regions.

The event brought together 35 participants from professional, academic, and institutional backgrounds, as well as journalists.

The webinar provided an opportunity to share results across four key areas:

  • Organizationnal models
  • Governance of second-tier structures, specifically regarding leadership profiles
  • Technological and organizational innovations within these organizations
  • Sustainability initiatives (CSR, climate change adaptation, and the inclusion of young people and women, among others)

The presentation, prepared by the project team (researchers, a doctoral student, research engineers, and interns), highlighted the diversity of activities, organizational models, and sizes among second-tier cooperative enterprises. Their governance structures and inclusion characteristics differ from those of first-tier wine cooperatives. While often more focused on downstream activities, second-tier structures tend to bring together cooperatives that are more innovative regarding grape varieties. They also make greater use of artificial intelligence (56%) compared to cooperative wineries (23%).

These findings prompt a more detailed analysis of the links between cooperative wineries and their unions regarding governance, innovation, and sustainability performance. It is also worth considering mapping the partnerships and cooperative networks within the wine sector.
